Pilgrimage across the Diocese

The Diocese is offering a variety of pilgrimages to encourage people of all ages to engage in purposeful journeys of prayer and reflection. A diocesan pilgrimage is a ‘journey for the soul,’ providing opportunities to grow in faith, form meaningful connections, and experience the joy of communal worship.

Pilgrimages for young people

For secondary school-aged pilgrims, The Right Reverend Ruth Bushyager, Bishop of Horsham, is leading two vibrant pilgrimages in East and West Sussex.

These events, held on 28th-29th June and 11th October, include worship, fellowship, and fun activities designed to deepen faith and create lasting friendships.

Pilgrimages for young adults

Young adults aged 18-30 are invited to a weekend of exploration and reflection on 12th July, guided by Bishop Ruth.

This pilgrimage features walking, prayer, and a visit to the Cathedral, with the option to stay overnight at the Bishop’s Palace.

How to find us

A prominent landmark of the area, the Cathedral is in the heart of Chichester close to the Market Cross, the centrepoint of the City's main pedestrianised shopping streets. The Cathedral's postcode is PO19 1PX.

By Car:

Approach from the M27 (A27) and turn northwards at one of the bypass roundabouts following signs for the city centre. Visitors arriving by car should aim for one of the many public car parks around the City. View the current Chichester District Council parking map here.

By Bus:

Most Stagecoach services stop just outside the Cathedral, click here for routes and journeys. Stagecoach services are dog friendly, so you can bring your canine companions onboard.

By Train:

Leaving the Railway Station on foot, turn left into Southgate. Walk straight ahead into South Street and follow the road to the pedestrianised crossroads at the top. Turn left into West Street and you will see the Cathedral on your left, the entrance is signposted from here. It is about half a mile from the station to the Cathedral and will take an average of 10 minutes to walk. There are no inclines on the journey.

By Coach:

Coaches should approach from the west side of the City and head for West Street where there is a drop off point for coaches, just outside the Cathedral.

General Access

Level access into the Cathedral is available through the South West Door, which is marked 40 on the Cathedral Plan.

Within the Cathedral and the Cathedral precincts there are ramps for easy level access. The Cathedral has three wheelchairs which may be used, free of charge, on a first-come first-served basis.

Hearing

A hearing loop system is available in the Cathedral during services.

Parking

There are a limited number of Accessible parking spaces situated on the approach to the Cathedral via West Street. These spaces can be used free of charge provided the vehicle is displaying a blue badge.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome to explore the Cathedral, and its grounds, during key visiting hours (Monday – Saturday, 9.00am - 5.00pm and Sunday, 12.30 - 2.30pm).

Dogs are permitted in the Garden of the newly opened Cloisters Kitchen & Garden.

To ensure that the Cathedral remains a safe and enjoyable space for all visitors, the following rules will apply to visitors with dogs:

Dogs must be on a leash at all times
Owners must clean up after their dogs
Dogs must be well-behaved and not disturb other visitors

Water stations and treats will be available at different points across the Cathedral Grounds.

Guide, Therapy and Assistance Dogs are welcome in the Cathedral for services and events.

Facilities

Lunch

Food and drink are available for purchase from the Cloisters Kitchen & Garden. If you wish to bring your own lunch, please do let us know and we will do our best to advise on available spaces.

Toilets

Toilet facilities (including an accessible toilet and changing facilities) are available in the North Transept opposite the Treasury.

Run entirely by our volunteers, The Shop offers an ever-changing range of Chichester Cathedral souvenirs, unique items created by local craftsmen, Fair trade gifts, vibrant traditional toys and sacred music.
