At the heart of the Cathedral’s music is its renowned choir, currently comprising 19 choristers - boys and girls - supported by six professional Lay Vicars. Choristers receive world-class musical training, integrating daily services at the Cathedral with their education at The Prebendal School, Sussex’s oldest school, located next to the Cathedral.
Each chorister receives a scholarship covering at least 25% of their school fees, with additional means-tested bursaries ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented children from joining. The choir’s performances reach national and international audiences through broadcasts, recordings, and tours, enriching both the local community and beyond.
A full choristership lasts five years and costs £54,705, covering 25% of school fees and specialist music training. Additional donations, including Gift Aid, go into the Bursary Fund to support families with the remaining fees, where needed.
