Chichester Cathedral is to host a major exhibition of artworks from celebrated members of the Royal Society of Sculptors from 27th June – 6th September 2022.
Together We Rise comprises over 30 artworks which will be presented within the 940-year old living place of worship, and across its grounds. The pieces respond to the artists' experience of the pandemic, their resilience, sense of community and collective hope for the future.
The artists are: Tabatha Andrews, Barbara Beyer, Philip Booth, Judy Boyt, Fiona Campbell, Dallas Collins, Alice Cunningham, Deborah Duffin, Anna Gillespie, Richard Goldsmith, Simon Hitchens, Jane Jobling, William Lasdun, Ian Marlow, Kate McDonnell, Seamus Moran, Rosie Musgrave, Rebecca Newnham, Kate Parsons, Colin Reid, Mark Richards, Roger Stephens, Jo Taylor, Patricia Volk and David Worthington.
The Cathedral’s Chancellor, the Reverend Canon Daniel Inman, said:
“Chichester Cathedral has a long history of celebrating and supporting visual artists. Together We Rise is an opportunity for our community, and visitors to the Cathedral, to reflect upon their own experiences of the pandemic, and learn from the creative processes of the 26 exhibiting artists – that out of some of our darkest experiences, new visions of what it means to be human can emerge.”
The exhibition will be curated by Visual Arts Advisor Jacquiline Creswell. Jacquiline said:
“Together We Rise is a counterpoint to the challenges of the last two years and an expression of the artists perseverance, by coming together through virtual means to overcome isolation, fear and doubt. By bringing this group together, much as other communities have come together during the pandemic to support one another, I have seen a flourishing of creativity which demonstrates the power of shared adversity overcome by shared endeavour. “
The exhibition will open to the public from 27th June 2022 and will form part of Culture Spark – Chichester’s season of culture in 2022.
