The Chapter of Chichester Cathedral are delighted to announce the appointment of Ruth Bamford as Bursar & Chief Financial Officer.
The Bursar will work alongside the Communar & Chief Operating Officer, reporting into the Dean of Chichester and the Chapter. Ruth will have oversight of ensuring the financial stability of the Cathedral, and of statutory compliance. She will also form part of the strategic leadership team, as the Cathedral embarks on a number of new projects in-line with their Vision.
Ruth has over 25 years of experience in finance, joining the Cathedral in 2021 as Head of Finance and contributing towards its recovery from the pandemic.
Ruth said: “I am looking forward to developing more contacts across the city, spending more time with volunteers and members of the congregation. Over the next few months we will see the opening of the Cloisters Café & Garden, the continuing of work on our historic Nave roof and the introduction of a new, more sustainable, lighting scheme. There is a lot to do but I am enjoying every moment and look forward to continuing to contribute to the Cathedral’s life.”
Acting Dean of Chichester, The Right Reverend Graeme Knowles, said: “We look forward to continuing to work with Ruth as we seek to improve the Cathedral’s finances for the purpose of mission and ministry in Jesus Christ’s name. Ruth’s extensive experience has already made such positive impact to the Cathedral, and her contributions will prove most vital as we continue with our journey of registering the Cathedral with the Charities Commission.”
The Cathedral’s Chapter will be seeking to appoint a Communar & Chief Operating Officer in late 2023.
