After five years as a residentiary canon of Chichester Cathedral, it has been announced today that Precentor, Canon Daniel Inman, will be returning to parish ministry as the new Associate Vicar of St Luke's and Christ Church in Chelsea in the Diocese of London.
As well as his new role, Canon Dan will also take up part-time study at the Warburg Institute in the University of London from this autumn to deepen his understanding of religion and art.
Canon Dan said: “It's been a great privilege to serve in the Cathedral and the Diocese for the past eight years as Director of Ordinands and then as a residentiary canon. I've learnt a huge amount about God and ministry during my time in Sussex and I will very much miss my excellent colleagues and the wonderful community here. Having not been in parish ministry since my curacy, however, I now feel that this is a good time in life to use my energy as a pastor and teacher on the ground in a lively urban context.”
The Interim Dean of Chichester, the Reverend Canon Simon Holland, said: “We warmly congratulate Canon Dan on his appointment as Associate Vicar of St Luke’s and Christ Church in Chelsea, and we thank him for his outstanding contribution to the life of the Cathedral for the past five years, first as Chancellor and, for the past year, as Precentor. The Cathedral has greatly benefitted from his deep commitment to music and the Arts, particularly his ground-breaking work in connection with the Liturgical Art Workshop. He has also enriched the Cathedral’s life through the lectures, talks, retreats and quiet days that he has organised or led himself. He has maintained high standards in worship and good governance, and his Chapter colleagues and the wider staff team will greatly miss his wise and compassionate judgement.”
Canon Dan’s final service will be the Eucharist on Sunday 28th July 2024.
