Chichester Cathedral would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas.
All are welcome to join our celebrations, some of which are avaliable online. Below, The Dean of Chichester, The Very Reverend Stephen Waine, reflects upon this period.
This year has been one of great challenge as the pandemic has continued and our prayers are for those who have died and those who have been bereaved. We pray for those who have fallen ill and give thanks for all who care for them. Medical staff, carers, friends, family, neighbours.
At the Cathedral we have taken as our theme this advent, a verse from the beginning of St. John's Gospel, which assures us that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it. It assures us that in the confusion and turbulence of the world in which we live with all its uncertainties and complexities, we are held in the loving hands of God, whose Son Jesus is the light of the world, born as one of us to live amongst us now and forever.
For over nine centuries this Cathedral stood as a witness to that light. And today our doors are open to all. And our prayer for the needs of the world continues each and every day. You are welcome to join us here and online as we worship and proclaim Christ the new-born King, a helpless baby lying in a manger.
The light which shines in the darkness and which the darkness will never overcome.
A very Happy Christmas to you all.
