Lunchtime Concert: Terence Allbright (piano) and Timothy Ravalde (organ)

Chichester Cathedral's popular lunchtime concerts take place on Tuesdays at 1.10pm during term time, in the spectacular setting of the Cathedral Nave. They are free and last approximately 50 minutes. You are welcome to come and go as you please. Coffee is available at no charge, and some visitors even bring a sandwich! There is a retiring collection.

Terence Allbright

Terence Allbright was born in Northampton. He became a teenage organist and choirmaster, then studied piano and composition in London and at Cambridge.

He has performed all over South-East Asia, in Mexico and Paris, in Ireland, and in The Long Room at Lord's, with mezzo-soprano Ann Murray, with baritone Stephen Roberts, and with Chinese soprano Violet Chang. He is very fortunate in his song recital partners who have also included sopranos Felicity Lott, Jacquelyn Fugelle and Jane Manning, mezzo Susan Legg, tenors Neil Jenkins, Philip Langridge and Andrew Wicks, and baritones Giles White and Michael Pearce. His recent concerts in Chichester have been with violinist Sebastian Müller and with trumpeter Fraser Tannock.

Among his early compositions are about 50 scores for BBC Radio Drama, and recent works include Manga for bass clarinet & piano and Snapshots for ensemble. Terence lives near Petworth and teaches at Chichester University

Timothy Ravalde, Assistant Organist at Chichester Cathedral

Timothy Ravalde is the Assistant Organist of Chichester Cathedral, a position he has held since 2010. He plays for the daily choral services and assists Charles Harrison with the training of the choir. He has also accompanied the choir on numerous broadcasts and tours, and appears on various recordings as accompanist, conductor and organ soloist. He is also the Musical Director of Fernhurst Choral Society with whom he has conducted a wide range of the major oratorio repertoire.

He was educated at the Nelson Thomlinson School, Wigton, and has held organ scholarships at Carlisle and Salisbury Cathedrals and at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he studied music. He is a recipient of the F.E. Smith medal, presented by the Worshipful Company of Musicians, and a winner of the Brian Runnett Prize for organ playing.
